Manufacturer selects Eastern North Carolina city for 400-job plant

A German company will invest hundreds of millions in a new manufacturing facility in Wilson, adding to a flurry of investments coming to the city in Eastern North Carolina.

Schott Pharma on Monday unveiled plans to invest $371 million in a factory that will produce glass and polymer pre-fillable syringes that can deliver different types of therapies. The company expects to begin construction on the facility by the end of this year, with operations beginning in 2027.

The facility is expected to create 400 jobs in Wilson by 2030, with a minimum average wage of $57,868. Schott is developing the facility within Campus at 587, an industrial park near the future Interstate 587 and its intersection with N.C. Highway 58.

The company on Monday was approved for incentives from the state during a meeting of the Economic Investment Committee, part of the state Department of Commerce. Total state incentives, including a JDIG grant, are valued at $6 million. The company is also in line for $16 million in local incentives.
