Houston-based developer eyes project with data center in Round Rock

A Houston-based developer is eyeing a 57-acre development in Round Rock that would include a data center. It marks the continued proliferation of data centers in the Austin area.

Representatives of Highland Resources Inc. received a recommendation from the Round Rock Planning and Zoning Commission on Oct. 16 to establish a planned unit development on the east side of Chisholm Trail Road and south of Old Settlers Boulevard.

It will head to the Round Rock City Council later for approval. Austin Business Journal

Atlanta office leasing rebounds as bigger deals return

More Atlanta companies are rekindling plans to lease office space, adding momentum to hopes for a sustained recovery in the local office property sector.

Some 2.2 million square feet was leased in Atlanta during the third quarter, a 29% increase year over year, according to commercial real estate services firm Savills US. Another report from Jones Lang LaSalle recorded eight deals of at least 90,000 square feet. Leasing activity is on course to outpace 2023, JLL said.CBRE reported only 1.5 million square feet of leasing activity, but said about three-fourths of the volume was generated by new deals. AIG eyes Atlanta Perimeter for new employment hub; may add hundreds of jobs

A Fortune 100 insurance giant is planning a major expansion in Atlanta, potentially adding hundreds of jobs along the Perimeter.

American International Group Inc. intends to plant a new employment hub at Brookhaven’s Perimeter Summit development, said multiple sources with knowledge of the deal.

AIG could occupy 100,000 to 200,000 square feet, the sources said.As the office sector inches toward a rebound after a painful few years, it’s a sign more companies that had put their plans on hold during the pandemic may once again be scouting for locations to recalibrate business units. Duracell eyes Georgia Tech’s Science Square for new R&D facility

One of the largest U.S. battery manufacturers is in talks to bring a research and development facility to a new $1 billion project at Georgia Tech, another sign Georgia is becoming a hub for battery technology. 

Chicago-based Duracell Inc. could bring 110 jobs to the life sciences district Science Square, said sources with knowledge of the deal. The Development Authority of Fulton County is expected to consider incentives to help lure the project to Atlanta during a meeting on Oct. 22. It’s listed on an agenda under the code name “Project Phoenix,” which sources confirmed is the potential deal with Duracell. Lockheed Martin in Marietta to build ‘hurricane hunter’ aircraft for NOAA

As hurricanes become more severe and dangerous, Lockheed Martin in Marietta will play a role in improving research for forecasts by building more advanced “hurricane hunter” aircraft.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has tapped Lockheed Martin to build C-130J Super Hercules aircraft that will be specially-equipped as hurricane hunters to fly straight into storms with specialized instruments to gather data.
“Our climate is changing significantly. Severe weather is happening more frequently, and as a result, we need more capabilities,” said U.S. Deputy Commerce Secretary Don Graves, who toured the Lockheed Martin plant in Marietta on Tuesday. The research from hurricane hunter aircraft “gives us the ability to understand how these storms form, how they develop, and the impact that they have on communities.” Atlanta Journal Constitution

Anderson-Dubose Company to establish distribution center in Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter and The Anderson-DuBose Company officials announced today the company will invest nearly $40 million by locating its first operations in Tennessee.

Anderson-DuBose will locate a new distribution facility in Jefferson City, which will house 80 new jobs upon completion of the project.

This is the first location Anderson-DuBose will have in Tennessee. The company is a major distributor for McDonald’s, and this new facility is expected to support up to 450 restaurant locations throughout the region.

The Anderson-DuBose Company started in 1991 with the acquisition of a McDonald’s distribution center. Since then, the company has experienced significant growth globally.

Danish Counter-UAS Company MyDefence Chooses Oklahoma City for Second U.S. Location

The Oklahoma Department of Commerce (Commerce) is pleased to announce that Danish counter Unmanned Air Systems (c-UAS) company, MyDefence, has selected Oklahoma City for its second U.S. based offices. The company is planning an initial investment of more than $1.2 million. The expansion, which was facilitated by Commerce, will create 48 new jobs and provide military and defense companies with counter-drone technology to combat Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and other threatening drone technology.  

“From an overall perspective, it is great news that MyDefence sets up its second US-based facility less than a year after its first,” said Defense Industry Attache, His Royal Highness brigadier general Prince Joachim. “Having chosen Oklahoma City to expand production, MyDefence will find itself at the heart of innovation and R&D in the field of counter-UAS. New manufacturing facility to create up to 500 jobs in Alabama

A window and door manufacturing facility is expected to create several hundred jobs in Alabama.

A ribbon cutting was held Oct. 22 for the Sierra Pacific Windows Manufacturing Campus at 300 Colin L. Powell Parkway in Phenix City. Once fully operational, that project is expected to create 300 to 500 new jobs. It represents a $60 million investment in the state.Sierra Pacific Windows manufactures wood and vinyl windows and doors. The BBJ reported the company’s plans last year to build the 610,000-square-foot facility on a 113-acre campus. It is a division of Sierra Pacific Industries, a family-owned forest products company based in California. Birmingham Business Journal

Fort Worth considers tax breaks for potential $429M Bell helicopter component plant

The City of Fort Worth is proposing tax breaks for Bell Textron Inc. as the company considers locating a new plant on the city’s north side and negotiates with the governor’s office for state incentives.

Bell is eyeing a $429 million plant in far north Fort Worth, inside a building previously occupied by Stanley Black and Decker Tooling at 15100 North Beach St.

The site is one of several the aerospace and defense manufacturer is considering to produce components for its newest attack aircraft for the U.S. Army, the V-280 Valor.

The Fort Worth-based company in February applied for a 10-year tax abatement via the state’s new school property tax incentives program.

In a statement, Bell said it regularly assesses sites that will meet its future business needs but stressed that a final decision has not been made.

The three adjacent solar farms are in Buckholts, in Milam County northeast of Austin. They have the capacity to produce 875 megawatts of power — nearly the output of a nuclear power facility. Dallas Business Journal
